What is LindyLibrary?

LindyLibrary is a free online video search service that allows users to view and find Lindy Hop videos that have been uploaded. You can find videos based on event name, event year, competition, dancer, and other search terms.  Try it out to see what's out there.  Also, you can search based on tags entered by other users. Currently our registered member services are unavailable until we move into "beta". Thank you for your patience.

 

Is LindyLibrary really free?

Yes. Anyone can view and share videos, and registered members can upload videos and use other features, free of charge. 

 

What is the difference between LindyLibrary and the "library" already up at poy.no?

LindyLibrary and Poy.no have the same goal: to archive and deliver video clips to the lindy hop community.  While Poy.no has concentrated on making the clips available, it hasn't done anything with the presentation of the clips. LindyLibrary saw that this was needed and decided to attempt to fix it. We discussed the issue, and decided to cooperate.  Poy will remain Poy, but the clips will soon be available with extra information and organization through LindyLibrary.

 

How do I watch and save videos?

Watching videos on LindyLibrary couldn't be easier—just come to the site and browse around, or search for events, dancers, and subjects that interest you. Click on the video links that you are interested in, and at the bottom of the videos details page there is a download link.  Click on that link and a window should pop up.  Select "Save As" and choose your location you want the video saved at. To save your favorites for later, you need to sign up as a member, and then click the 'Add to Favorites' link underneath the videos you want to watch later. You can also create playlists to group favorite videos together into your own personal categories. (Not available until the beta)

 

What is the difference between YouTube/Google Video and LindyLibrary.com?

At LindyLibrary, we intend to host and archive high quality lindy hop footage of both current and past generation of dancers.  Videos on YouTube/Google Video are usually of a lower resolution, and are suitable for previewing the videos or watching something immediately, however they do not make good copies for large quality archives.  Currently, LindyLibrary will use YouTube as a preview function for it's collection.  In short, we will try to archive as much quality Lindy Hop data as possible. 

 

What are tags?

Tags are keywords that describe videos. For example, a competition video might be tagged with "lindy hop", "charleston", and "slides". Users who enjoy watching competition videos can then search for any of those terms and that video will show up in their search results. Tags help you find new videos you might like to watch, and also help you label videos you upload so that other people can find them more easily. The larger the tag appears in the list, the more videos use that tag.

 

How do I playback a downloaded video?

To playback one of your videos, simply use your favorite media player on your computer to open the video file. If the file does not play correctly make sure that you have to proper codecs to playback the file.  You can find the exact codec needed for each video in the detailed description page on LindyLibrary. How do I change my password?

To change your password: (only for the registered users feature, currently unavailable until the beta)

1. Login to your LindyLibrary account.
2. Click on the 'My Profile' link under the 'Home' tab.
3. Click on the 'Edit' link in the colored box that shows your video graphic.
4. Change the two password fields on this page under 'Account Information'.
5. Click the 'Update Profile' button at the bottom of the page.

How do I clear my search history on LindyLibrary?

LindyLibrary doesn't save your searches, but your browser probably does. If you don't want to see your previous search terms displayed in the search field, you need to clear the search history in your browser.

 

Can I change my username?

No. Your username is your permanent identity in the LindyLibrary community. For special situations please email us.

 

How do I edit or delete a comment I made on some one else's video?

Currently comments are not available until the beta. You can't edit or delete comments you make on other people's videos. Once you've made a comment, it can only be removed or moderated by the video owner.

 

How do videos get featured?

LindyLibrary's users rate videos they like. We review highly-rated and recent videos for consideration in 'Featured Videos'.
